Great News

I have been able to rent a studio in the Vista Studios, downtown Columbia, SC, for the next six months. It has really been terrific. The other artists are great. Many are already friends of mine, so it's terrific to have their influence and inspiration so close at hand. I am hoping that it will turn into something more permanent.

Here are some pictures.

Almost Done

This painting is almost done. It is a custom sized, handmade canvas to fit my client's space.
The image was inspired by an early morning walk on her land in the country. It was just beautiful there.

Bringing it Forward

This is the next step in the process I outlined in my August 8 post. I am now developing the basic shapes of the planes in this painting. I think it is going well. There will probably be two more painting sessions before it is finished.

This is my cat, Sammy. He looks so comfortable.
I thought it was a cute pose, so I started slinging my brushes!

This landscape reflects a magnificent sunset I saw on the beach on Sullivan's Island, SC in front of the Catholic church. Looking toward the city of Charleston, the water reflected the sun on the harbor, the surf, and right up into the sand. It was so beautiful, I just had to paint it.

Been working on this one a while. It is a love story. The goldfish has fallen madly in love with the beautiful lily. He is singing her a love song. See the bubbles? This is a 30x40 gallery wrapped canvas.

A Good Cup of Coffee

It is extraordinary how a simple image can bring up so many memories. I took the reference photo for this painting almost four years ago. I was at a restaurant waiting for my sister and her new baby. My niece is now a beautiful 4 year old. This simple image reminded me of our great visit together - and a great cup of coffee.

My Students

Any one who knows me, knows my students are a big part of my life. Welcome back to a new year. Hope your Summer was a good one.

Little Bit More

Still working on this larger painting. All day in fact. Twelve hours yesterday and ten today. Maybe tomorrow it will be finished. Who knows. It may be next month! Here's a little bit more. Sorta gives it away, but not all the way. There more to come!
Hint: It's a love story.

Guess What

Been working all day on a big one. Not quite ready to show the whole thing, but here's a piece of it. Can you guess what it is?

This is Inky again. He's turning into my studio cat. He's content to sit and sleep around the studio all day. I thought this pose was cute, so I put aside the lemons for a day and painted Inky. I'm thinking I would like to do a series of him, he really is a good subject.
