2nd Annual Litchfield Beach Paint Out - En Plein Air

It is truly a gift to spend time at the sea with people who love it and each other.  Thinking of old friends and new.  Precious.

We were blessed with beautiful but wildly different weather during our stay.  The ocean and the wildlife were inspiring.

Each of us painted to our heart's content during the day, with skill builders and oyster lessons for sketchbook vespers in the evenings.

Each morning we all gathered at the end of the boardwalk for the sun to rise and the earth to welcome another day.  It was truly majestic.

Pictures are just some of my favorites in no particular order. : )

Duff Green Mansion

Robert and I had a lovely stay over the summer at the Duff Green Mansion in Vicksburg, MS.  We highly recommend it.  Very relaxing.  Here is my painting of the mansion and a few other photos.

Porgy and Bess will be performed at Marion Square this year via a simulcast on the Jumbotron.  Mark your calendars.  May 30 @ 7:30pm.  What a treat.

Here's a link to the Post and Courier's article with the details.

"Spoleto Festival, in cooperation with the Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs and Piccolo Spoleto Festival, came up with a solution. It will live-stream the performance of “Porgy and Bess” on a Jumbotron screen in Marion Square at 7:30 p.m. May 30, then rebroadcast the opera at 7:30 p.m. the next night in the practice field of West Ashley High School.

The Marion Square simulcast and West Ashley rebroadcast are made possible in part by the sponsorship of Wells Fargo and are open to the public and free. Festival officials are optimistic about the weather but will devise a contingency plan should the forecast include rain."

Breech Inlet Sunrise

Here is a Plein Air sketch of Breech Inlet - the water between Sullivan's Island, SC and Isle of Palms, SC.  The sun rises here everyday to many locals and tourists soaking in the view.

“I never intended to show this work, but I felt it developed into something worth sharing. It is a result of an exercise in self-awareness. I have enjoyed this process and hope you enjoy the results”  Michel McNinch
There are three distinct series of paintings in this show.  In order of their origin, they are:  Channels, Subconscious,  and Goddesses.
“Channels” - During my father’s illness and subsequent death I sought creative counseling.  It was suggested that I attempt a visual prayer.  With this suggestion in mind, my “Channels” series was born.  It evolved into a treasured practice as I continued these prayers for the last two years.
“Subconscious”-   These paintings were an attempt to paint what was beneath the surface of my present awareness. With nothing particular in mind, I chose a color and started painting.  Each time I sat down to paint, I had no idea or direction.  I painted on sheer instinct from the underlying influence of my subconscious.   What freedom!  What fun!
“Goddesses” - When researching for a proposed workshop,  I had the idea to use the accomplished women in my life to pose for Goddess paintings.  It grew from there to be a very meaningful and rewarding endeavor to honor the many inspiring women in my life.
May is traditionally the time of year I show new work.  Although I  never intended to show the “Channels” or “Subconscious” paintings, these experiments developed into something worth sharing.  The “Goddess” paintings were done for pure pleasure.   I have thoroughly enjoyed the process and hope that you will enjoy the results.
